Educational Philosophy/Statement
Education should be a model deeply rooted in collaboration. In my classroom, the students and I are a team. I also partner with parents and the community to provide the ultimate educational experience for my learners. My philosophy of education begins with establishing an environment of learning that is positive and safe for all students. Students learn in a variety of ways. The need for differential instruction is critical. There should be a healthy balance between direct and indirect instruction. The ultimate balance involves the integration of educational theory and application. The purpose of schools is to empower the student to meet the challenges of the world. Schools should provide a framework of learning that complements the specific learning needs of a learner. Educators should provide opportunities for students to foster a love of learning and a sense of curiosity.
Schools are designed to provide a structured, disciplined, and rigorous environment that ensures a well-paced educational experience for the learner. Schools should adhere closely to State Standards and implement programs and resources that support students with special needs. Schools should also celebrate and recognize tolerance. Educators should teach tolerance at a young age. Educators need to continue to implement lessons that are culturally relevant to all learners. Students should ultimately feel valued and supported in the learning. The overall benchmarks of my teaching center on the following: a warm but rigorous learning community, a student-centered approach to learning and assessments that are both formal and informal.
